Stoford dines out on Co-op contract
Birmingham development company Stoford is set to project manage the construction of a £2.2m food store for Midlands Co-operative Society. The single-storey shop will be built in West Bromwich.
Stoford has secured planning permission for a 9,000 sq ft food store on the disused site of a former motor dealership in the Hill Top area.
The company's retail division will undertake the project on the back of its work on Providence Place's BT tower. It has appointed Halesowen-based A & H Construction to build the store.
Construction work on The Co-operative store includes level entry access, automatic sliding doors and parking and landscaping.
Carl Stacey, director of Stoford Retail, said: "The attractive new Co-operative foodstore will boost the local economy, improve the environment and create new jobs in an area of the Black Country that has been earmarked for regeneration."
David Melhuish, head of development and facilities at the Midlands Co-operative, said: "We are pleased that this project is getting off the ground and confident that Stoford Retail will deliver a quality unit on time and on budget. Once complete the food store will provide the local community with a wide range of products for their everyday shopping needs."
