National Express goes 24/7
Transport operator National Express has opened a 24-hour call centre in Birmingham.
The company, which is headquartered in the city, said it is the first major transport company in Britain to offer 24/7 customer service.
The extension has created ten new jobs at the Hagley Road call centre, which responds to passengers from across the UK.
National Express has been trialling the 24/7 service since early July and said it expects to receive an additional 20,000 calls every month.
Belen Martinez, customer service director for National Express Coach, said: "We are one of the only travel companies in the UK to run services overnight, so it makes perfect sense to introduce a call centre which mirrors this.
"We employ around 200 people in our Birmingham call centre and have created ten new full time positions through the extension. The majority of transport companies direct customers to the website after 8pm, so the new service makes National Express accessible to customers around the clock."
National Express operates coach, bus and train services in the UK.
