The Cube design has UK-wide potential, says manager

There could be scope to replicate Birmingham's iconic Cube complex in other major UK cities, according to the new manager of the site's hotel, restaurant and spa.

Speaking to Insider, Mark Nesbitt said he imagined other hoteliers would try to "mirror image" The Cube's design but insisted the site's Indigo hotel would not be in direct competition with any of the city's other established hotels.

Nesbitt was appointed to the general manger role by the operator of the Hotel Indigo, Marco Pierre White restaurant and spa operator, Sanguine Hospitality.

"I think a lot of hoteliers will try and mirror what we have created with The Cube – a complete mix of offerings – across the country. I think there is scope for similar developments to be replicated in other major cities. Whether that could be done by Sanguine in the future is something we'll have to look at," he said.

Nesbitt added that it was an exciting time to be taking on the role in Birmingham.

"The Cube is a completely new offering – we're looking for a different customer base to the other hotels in the region. There is undoubtedly a lot of competition from other hotels, but we have a lot more to offer, so it's not a direct challenge," he said.

"The influence that Marco Pierre White's name has brought to the development is immense – he is the godfather of cookery and a huge draw to the site."

He said the combination of White's restaurant, which will be located on the top floor of The Cube, along with the four-star hotel and spa would boost tourism numbers in the region.

"We want the site to become a tourist hot-spot, for it to be a reason for people to come and visit the city. Hopefully when people come to Birmingham in the future, The Cube will be on their list of things to visit."

Nesbitt was recruited to manage the skyline Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill on the 25th floor, the 52-bedroom Hotel Indigo on levels 23 and 24 and the level five Club & Spa, which are being fitted out ahead of a launch in autumn.
