East Mids businesses 'to miss out' on Olympics
Only 20 per cent of East Midlands businesses think they will benefit from the 2012 Olympics. Close Invoice Finance, which commissioned the research, said the low figures could be attributed to the domination of larger companies or a complex tender system.
Close Invoice Finance's latest business barometer confirmed a definite north/south divide in companies' attitudes.
Thirty-eight per cent of London businesses feel they will benefit from the Olympics, a figure which shrinks to 20 per cent in the East Midlands and 12 per cent in the North East.
Ian Steward, local head of Close Invoice Finance, said: "It’s disappointing to learn that a UK average of 68 per cent expect little impact, particularly given that a lot of the funding for the event is coming from private sector investment.
"It’s difficult to pinpoint why these figures are so low. Perhaps the complex tendering process is proving a hindrance, or it could be that larger companies are dominating, particularly when it comes to the big construction contracts."
