Barratt Homes, based in Coalville, has joined forces with developer Peel to bring forward £200m-worth of housing developments on 80 acres of land.

The partnership with the North West property giant will initially involve six sites with the potential for more than 1,000 new houses across the north of England.

Barratt Homes is soon to submit detailed planning applications for sites in Wigan and south Liverpool for almost 500 houses, said Peel.

Additional sites in Greater Manchester, Cheshire and South Yorkshire are set to follow.

Louise Morrissey, director of land and planning at Peel Land and Property, said: "We are delighted to have reached a mutually beneficial agreement with Barratt Homes as our partner.

"Our agreement with Barratt Homes represents a new way forward during these times of recovery for markets generally and the housebuilding industry in particular.

"The goal is to bring forward our residential sites and deliver quality new family homes which we know Barratt Homes will do."

Neil Goodwin, managing director for Barratt in Manchester, added: "This strategic alliance continues with the excellent relationship established over many years between Peel and Barratt Homes. The two companies share a common vision for the revitalisation of our economy and our markets by the provision of much needed new housing."
