A mental health unit which will create about 260 new jobs has been given the green light by West Northamptonshire Development Corporation’s (WNDC) planning committee.

The site, based in Northampton, will cost about £50m to create. Plans are being led by St Andrew’s Healthcare.

Located on the site of the former Cliftonville Middle School, the three-storey development will accommodate up to 180 people. It will comprise four buildings, which will house bedrooms, therapy facilities and offices.

It will sit next to the recently completed William Wake House, a 130-bed mental health centre.

Adrian Arnold, WNDC’s director of planning services, said: "This development represents a major investment in Northampton, and will support the creation of new jobs for local people. It will be a high quality and tasteful building, supporting St Andrew’s Healthcare to provide important services to the local community."
