University signs LABA joint venture
The University of Leicester said it is aiming to strengthen its relationship with local businesses by forming a partnership with the Leicestershire Asian Business Association (LABA).
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been agreed between the pair, which the university said will allow them to work together on several academic and business-facing activities.
LABA said it will promote the university at its Business Advice Centre and International Trade Centre as well as assisting spin-offs and attracting public sector funds for research.
Plans for joint networking activities as well as a LABA/university lecture series for the business community are also underway.
LABA’s Indo British Trade Council will be hosting a buyer and seller conference at the university in August, involving small business in the food and drink sector from the UK and India.
Jaspal Minhas, LABA president, said: "The MOU consolidates existing links into a strong collaboration between business and the university research, design and enterprise faculties.
"My primary focus has been to give impetus to economic activity and business growth, to increase inward investment and improve employment for local people and in the region. This business consortium has the acumen to achieve much for many."
