900 jobs to be delivered with Amazon site

Online trading giant Amazon will create up to 900 jobs with the opening of a new processing centre in Staffordshire.

The announcement of the site, which will be based in Rugeley, comes after Amazon revealed a steep profit drop earlier this year.

The expansion plans were revealed just months after Amazon said it would open up distribution sites in Dunfermline and Edinburgh.

Arthur Valdez, vice-president of operations at Amazon.co.uk, told reporters the centre would play "an important role" in fulfilling orders for customers across the world.

He said: "We have a busy Christmas coming up and look forward to assembling a team of talented people who will play their part in ensuring that customers receive the millions of items that will be ordered over the festive season."

Amazon has been trading online for more than 13 years. It sells books, electrical equipment, music and electronic games.
