Jobs and output on the rise, says PMI

Share | |

Job creation in the East Midlands was at a "near record high" in June. That's according to the latest Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) study from Lloyds TSB.

The report, which measures the combined output of the region's manufacturing and service sectors, also said both output and new orders had increased over the month.

Growth in the region was slightly above the UK's economic average, which the report attributed to a high increase in new orders.

New business also rose for the 21st successive month, with some respondents indicating that growth in new export orders had helped to boost overall new business.

Roger Galbraith, area director for Lloyds TSB Commercial in the East Midlands and Lincolnshire, said: "The June PMI data rounded off a positive quarter for the East Midlands economy, during which output and new business saw further solid growth, and the labour market benefitted from stronger rates of job creation.

"Marked employment growth continued in June, despite weaker increases in output and new orders, although a solid fall in outstanding business suggests that capacity pressures may have peaked."
