Marco Pierre White defends 'passionate' Birmingham
TV chef Marco Pierre White has defended Birmingham against claims it is the most boring and least romantic city in Europe.
A survey by TripAdvisor found that out of 3,523 people quizzed, the city was among the worst for romance and entertainment.
White, who is set to open his first Birmingham restaurant in The Cube later this year, said he disagreed with the findings.
The Kitchen Burnout star said: “I would dispute findings by this survey which claim Birmingham is the most boring and least romantic city. On the contrary, when I’ve been here I’ve found it to have a really vibrant atmosphere.
“The people are fantastic, it has some top-class leisure destinations such as the Bullring, The Mailbox and NEC. There’s also some cracking nightlife at Brindleyplace and Broad Street."
He described the 'unromantic' tag attached to the city as "a gross exaggeration".
"People are certainly passionate about food which is why I chose the city to locate my first venue in the Midlands," he said.
"I look forward to proving the findings of this survey wrong by helping to showcase how fresh, innovative, forward thinking and romantic Birmingham really is."
