Welbeck unveils multimillion pound accomodation plans
Welbeck Student Living has submitted plans to create a 221-bedroom student accommodation block, Insider has learnt. Nottingham architect Church Lukas has been assigned to the scheme, which will be situated on Radmarsh Road, Lenton.
In planning documents submitted to Nottingham City Coucnil, Wellbeck said it is planning to construct 178 one-bedroom and 43 two-bedroom student flats in the six-storey tower block, which will also house a 3,552 sq ft café.
The 0.41 hectare site is also adjacent to the University of Nottingham’s Jubilee campus, and was formerly a timber yard.
Welbeck Student Living is part of Welbeck Land. Its sister company, Welbeck Strategic Land, is involved in promoting the Burnaston Cross in Derby, which extends for more than 42 hectares, and has been touted as a strategic rail linked distribution park.
The company’s property portfolio is currently worth about £1.8bn.
The company's application comes just weeks after property company The Mansion Group submitted an application to the city council to renovate Bowman House on Talbot Street into student accommodation.
Mansion has recently bought the 30,303 sq ft former office building from Mapeley, the Guernsey-based real estate investor and asset management vehicle.
At its Property Predictions event in January, the East Midlands office of King Sturge said that some secondary stock located around the region's universities would be turned into student accommodation. The firm said it would help to reduce the over supply, and pointed out that smart investors will also "look at alternative sectors for investment such as student housing, care homes and budget hotels".
