Hammond to hold Bombardier talks
Talks are expected to be held between trade unions and transport secretary Philip Hammond regarding the Bombardier crisis.
The RMT union said it would be meeting with the transport secretary next week for discussions after the manufacturer announced it would axe 1,400 jobs from its Derby plant.
The RMT also said that unions would be staging a mass demonstration in Derby on Saturday July 23.
Bombardier announced plans to shed hundreds of jobs after losing out last month to German company Siemens for the government's lucrative Thameslink contract.
Hammond said yesterday (6 July) that Bombardier had written to the Department for Transport in May saying there would have to be redundancies at Derby, regardless of the outcome of the Thameslink contract.
