Nottingham eco-hotel gets lift-off

Share | |

Construction is about to start on the University of Nottingham's £20m hotel.

Planning permission was granted earlier this year, and now the university's council has given approval for the 200-bed 'eco' hotel development.

It will be built on University Park, adjacent to the East Midlands Conference Centre. The hotel, which will be funded entirely by the university, will be available for use by conference delegates, university visitors, local businesses and the general public.

Contractor BAM Construction has been appointed to start work on site during July.

The hotel will feature reduced carbon emission technology, executive-style rooms, meeting and conferencing rooms, a gym and a restaurant and bar.

Solar photovoltaic panels and ground-sourced heat technology have also been incorporated into the design, as well as a lower energy assisted-cooling ventilation system.

The hotel is due to be completed for opening by the end of 2012.
