Something for the weekend

An unfair cop

It's not rare to see a police car at a road traffic accident but it is something of a novelty to see a police car being the cause of a road traffic accident. But this happened when we were sat outside Cast in Nottingham having lunch with James Keeton, Matt Robertson and Matt Smith from Jones Lang Lasalle. Imagine the scene, when a police car gently rolled back into a civilian vehicle.

The chicken burger dropped slowly from Matt Robertson's mouth, before he ran off to take a photo of the whole sorry mess. Always vigilant, our Matt.

Straight talk

There was some stirring stuff from George Cowcher, the chief executive of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce this week. Speaking at an Insider round table, the week after Derby received the double-whammy that both Bombardier and Egg would probably be leaving the city, George accused civil servants in London of "living in a hermetically-sealed bubble", and "having no idea of what goes on outside of London".

Refreshing to hear someone tell it like it is for a change.

Flower power

A new floral trail linking the main shopping areas around Nottingham city centre has been launched.

The initiative, which has been jointly sponsored by the Nottingham Retail Business Improvement District (BID) and Nottingham City Council, aims to encourage shoppers to visit all the shopping areas in the city centre whilst also enjoying the floral displays.

The trail comprises eight specially-designed willow sculptures representing items that can be bought at city centre retailers - a dress, handbag, ring, jacket, shoe, perfume bottle, chair and coffee cup - showcasing the diverse retail offer in the city. They are located at the junctions of Queen Street and King Street, Milton Street and Lower Parliament Street as well as on Thurland Street, Victoria Street, Bridlesmith Gate, Listergate, St Peter’s Square, and Canning Circus.

In total it takes between 30 minutes and 45 minutes to complete the entire trail. Not that we've tested this out, you understand.
