University to set up China site
The University of Birmingham is set to open a collaborative centre in Guangzhou, China. The university is collaborating with the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality on the joint venture.
The University of Birmingham Guangzhou Centre will be set up later in the summer to "identify, design and co-ordinate the delivery of joint research projects" in Guangzhou and the broader Pearl River Delta region. It will also act as a base for research staff in the region.
Initial collaborative research themes which the centre will host include energy; communications and language; advanced manufacturing; biotechnology; medicine and healthcare and urbanisation.
Professor David Eastwood, of the University of Birmingham, said: "Building on a decade of engagement with partners in Guangzhou, I believe that as we strengthen our presence through the Birmingham Centre that future prospects for deep and lasting collaborations, bringing benefits to the citizens of Guangzhou and beyond, are bright.
"We at Birmingham are committed to making Guangzhou our signature engagement in China."
