Chemical manufacturer Scott Bader has unveiled plans to create an innovation centre for start-up companies in Wollaston.

The company will provide shared laboratory and office space for fledgling companies specialising in specialty chemicals, composites and coatings sectors.

Scott Bader, which is a £180m-turnover company with 600 employees, will open the centre tomorrow (1 July).

About 20 early stage companies will be able to move onto the site. They will have access to investment networks that match investors to businesses, mentoring and business planning advice and networking events.

Oxford Innovation will manage the centre. The organisation is already responsible for four sites in the East Midlands; the Wellingborough Innovation Centre and three premises in Nottinghamshire.

Philip Bruce, group managing director of Scott Bader, said: "Our reputation has been built on technology, innovation and service to our customers while working closely with the communities in which we operate.

"So we are delighted to announce the launch of Scott Bader Innovation Centre in partnership with Oxford Innovation, as part of our strategy to support the next generation of innovative chemicals companies and the development of future technologies."
