Housebuilder Galliford Try has won a £29m contract to build the Hagley Road retirement village in Birmingham.

The ExtraCare Charitable Trust has appointed the construction company to build the complex which comprises 240 mixed tenure units. The site will cater for the over-55s and include a village centre with gym, restaurant, library, shops and an indoor bowling green, as well as care facilities for the elderly.

The project will commence on site in October 2011, and is set for completion in September 2013.

This is the fourth retirement village that Galliford Try will construct for ExtraCare following the company's appointments to sites in Lichfield, Nottingham and Erdington.

Galliford Try's chief executive Greg Fitzgerald said: "We are delighted to secure the Hagley Road contract and continue our relationship with ExtraCare. This award is testament to our proven track record in delivering not only high-quality residential schemes but also the community facilities that make these self-contained developments a real success."
