A business "matchmaking" service aiming to help East Midlands companies unlock export opportunities in China has been launched.

Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce is behing the 'Link To China' service.

It aims to provide "expert information" about new free or low-cost trade opportunities and business projects in China as well as practical advice on how to break into the Chinese market.

This will involve identifying Chinese suppliers, agents, investors, distributors and trading partners. The chamber said the service will have links to 15 Chinese cities and provinces including Shanghai.

David Hood, the chamber's head of international trade, said: "China is the world's second largest economy and also one of the fastest-growing and this new service will help firms of all sizes, but particularly SMEs, to break into this highly-lucrative marketplace.

"Getting more UK-manufactured products into China is of paramount importance if we are to stand any chance of creating the export-led economy that will drive future growth."
