Victoria Centre revamp to create 2,260 jobs
Capital Shopping Centres (CSC) has submitted plans for its £240m redevelopment of the Victoria Shopping Centre in Nottingham which it said will create more than 2,200 jobs. Proposals include the construction of offices, a cinema, a gym and food and drink outlets.
If plans are approved, the centre will be increased by 591,057 sq ft to accommodate the additional services.
According to the planning application, CSC is planning the demolition of existing multi-storey car park, northern part of the existing Victoria Centre, York House on Mansfield Road, Base 51 on Glasshouse Street and Global House on Huntingdon Street.
CSC said it will also build a mixed-use development including the alteration, part redevelopment and extension of the existing Victoria Centre to provide new retail, leisure and office accommodation. It also plans to develop a three-level multi-storey car park underneath the extension.
A statement from CSC read: "Our intention is to create a stronger anchor in the north of the city centre to complement development proposals in the south, which together will help to draw customers through the City Centre. CSC believes a programme of on-going investment in the Victoria Centre can help Nottingham regain and enhance its role as the premier regional centre in the East Midlands."
A recent report from research body CACI estimated that shoppers will spend more than £1.7bn in Nottingham during 2011 – down from the £1.81bn it forecast for 2009-10.
