Tarmac disposes of Pigsdon Quarry
Tarmac, based in Wolverhampton, has sold its asphalt plant at Pigsdon Quarry near Bude to Glendinning.
Newton Abbot-based Glendinning is a quarrying, concrete products and road contracting business.
Contractor and civil engineer Tarmac sold the site for an undisclosed sum.
The plant is located at the entrance of Glendinning's quarry which the company bought from Penhill Quarry and Haulage in January 2010. The acquisition gives Glendinning two asphalt plants, increasing its coverage across Devon and Cornwall.
Adam Somerscales, commercial director of Glendinning, said: "This is an exciting addition to our business and compliments our quarry near Bude.
"The transaction included the existing two plant operators joining our team and with their experience we are looking forward to uninterrupted supply to customers."
The quarry serves the North Cornwall and Torridge districts and according to Glendinning it sells about 15,000 tonnes of asphalt per year – including surface courses – mostly to contractors such as South West Highways.
Glendinning operate from sites in Ashburton, Exeter, Plymouth, Paignton and Bude and employs 335 people.
