Morgan Sindall has been awarded a £6.7m contract to construct a leisure centre for Leicester's De Montfort University (DMU).

The Warwickshire-based construction company has started work on the new facility which will feature a 25-metre pool, gym, climbing wall, racket courts and studios.

The two-storey building has been designed by S&P Architects, the firm behind the London 2012 Olympic Aquatic Centre.

Nick Seddon, area manager for Morgan Sindall, said: "Morgan Sindall has a wealth of experience in both the leisure and higher education sectors and we’re delighted to be able to utilise this on the project. The new leisure centre will provide fantastic facilities for both DMU students and the general public."

The leisure centre, which is located on the corner of Western Boulevard and Duns Lane in Leicester's West End, the build is scheduled for completion in July 2012.
