Iliad reveals accommodation proposals

Plans for a 492-bedroom student accommodation block in Birmingham have been proposed by developer Iliad. The two-block project was submitted following the near completion of the £40m Bagot Street student development.

The site for the latest scheme is located in the Aston area, directly adjacent to the 656-room Bagot Street project, which is due for completion next month.

It will comprise 492 bedrooms including 70 studio rooms, across two blocks ranging between 11 and 16 storeys.

The proposed site will also feature more than 5,000 sq ft of retail space on the ground floor.

Designed by architect Tim Groom of Formroom, the building is planned to draw on the site’s history as a former manufacturing site for the adjacent jewellery quarter.

Planning approval is expected in the autumn of 2011, with working starting on site by the end of the year for a 2013 opening.
