BSP Consulting wins £100m project contract
BSP Consulting has been appointed to work on the £100m Castleward Urban Village regeneration scheme in Derby.
The company, which has offices in Nottingham and Derby, will provide the full civil, structural and transport engineering services for the project.
Derby City Council's major development scheme will involve the construction of 800 houses, schools and community facilities on a 30-acre brownfield site.
Regeneration specialist Compendium Living was recently named by Derby Council as its preferred partner for the programme. The overall scheme will take more than ten years to complete.
Compendium Living is a Liverpool-based joint venture between affordable homes provider Lovell and Riverside, one of the UK's largest registered social landlord groups.
Jef Todd, BSP director, said: "We are extremely pleased to have been chosen to work on this prestigious flagship project for Derby. It has tremendous potential for the city and is one of the most exciting developments we have been involved with in the East Midlands.
"The scheme will replace a brownfield area with a sustainable community between Derby city centre and the railway station."
Work will start in spring 2012 on the first phase of the Urban Village scheme. This will include about 70 homes, 26, 909 sq ft of commercial space, community facilities, a central park and a boulevard between Derby railway station and the city centre.
Phase one will be built on land provided by Derby City Council and the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) and helped by acquisitions financed by the Homes and Communities Agency.
