Jobs axed as fashion store fails

Seventy jobs have been lost after Leicester-based fashion importer Moreglam collapsed. Accountant Grant Thornton has been appointed to handle the administration.

Jeremy Birch and David Bennett from Grant Thornton's Leicester office will handle the administration and said the business has "no viable future as a going concern".

In a statement, the administrators said: "We had to take the difficult decision on Monday (13 June) to make 70 members of Moreglam's staff redundant. Nine staff members have been retained to assist as we explore the options to achieve the best possible outcome for creditors from selling the stock."

Moreglam was established in the 1990s and manufactured and imported fashion clothes for women and girls.

Its customers were high street chain retailers and local independent shops. The company's main premises were at Forest Road in Leicester.

Moreglam's directors invited the company's bank to seek the administration.
