Clegg Construction has begun work on a £7m project for the University of Nottingham. The energy technologies building will house research into renewable resources and carbon emissions.

It will be located within the university's Innovation Park, adjacent to the Jubilee Campus.

The building will comprise laboratories, a prototype hall, exhibition area, a rooftop laboratory zone, offices and an external technology area for energy testing.

Research into bio-energy, hydrogen fuels, carbon capture and storage and sustainable architecture will be conducted at the site, which is set for completion in March 2012.

Simon Blackburn, managing director of Nottingham-based Clegg Construction, said: "The aim is to develop one of the most energy efficient laboratory buildings in the country, with an 'outstanding' rating under the BREEAM accreditation scheme.

"The structure will also incorporate renewable materials and a host of other features to reduce its impact on the environment."
