AMEC completes £172m US deal
Engineering company AMEC, which has two offices in Derbyshire, has completed its acquisition of American company MACTEC for $280m – just over £172m.
The US engineering and environmental services company is headquartered in Georgia and has 2,600 employees and 70 offices, mainly in the eastern part of the USA.
The company is described as a good fit as it provides a similar range of services to AMEC's existing Earth & Environmental (E&E) business, which includes environmental planning, assessment and remediation, infrastructure engineering, water resources and construction support services.
The combination is said to allow AMEC greater access to new customers and regions and MACTEC a better international platform for growth.
A small MACTEC subsidiary, MACTEC Development Corporation, will be run as a standalone entity with its existing management, until final regulatory approval is obtained from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. No date has yet been specified.
The acquisition has swelled AMEC's staff numbers by 2,600 to 25,000 in 40 countries.
