Jet2.com is planning to expand its operation at East Midlands Airport. The airline said it planned to recruit 40 more people, introduce a third aircraft and launch new routes.

Ian Doubtfire, managing director of Jet2.com, said: "We’re delighted with our first year of operation at East Midlands Airport.

"The growth we've already seen, combined with the growth planned, means we can fly more and more people living in the region where they want to go directly from their local airport.

"Also, with the airport benefiting from great motorway access, we are finding that our flights are drawing passengers further afield from areas including Lincolnshire and the south."

Jet2.com said that expansion plans are already underway for summer 2012 with a third aircraft now planned to be based at the airport, taking the total number of Jet2.com seats available from the East Midlands to 400,000.

When the airline started flying from East Midlands Airport it had one aircraft and it served seven resorts. But a year on, the airline's presence at the airport has almost doubled with two aircraft now flying to 12 locations.

Jet2.com claims to have transported 100,000 passengers from East Midlands Airport in its first year.
