Eco graveyard secures Lloyds TSB funding

A Leicestershire couple have opened a natural burial ground in South Croxton after securing a £90,000 business loan from Lloyds TSB Commercial.

The Willows Natural Burial Ground is set in nearly six acres of Charnwood countryside. Only non-toxic coffins and ashes caskets will be used at the site.

Chris and Jenny Scroby bought the land from the previous owner after hearing that it was going to be sold on eBay.

They then secured a funding package from Lloyds TSB Commercial to secure the funding and guidance the needed to purchase the land and start the business.

Chris Scroby, director at The Willows Natural Burial Ground, said: "I have always wanted to own woodland. To be able to combine this ambition with a change in career, whilst also giving something back to the community and the environment, is my dream.

"We want to use locally sourced trades and suppliers wherever possible – our gravedigger is from the next village. As a start-up ourselves, we understand the importance of supporting local businesses. We hope that The Willows will become a place that everyone will come to and remember their loved ones in peaceful, natural surroundings."
