Roman Originals swoops for CDU labels

Several brands belonging to CDU, the Staffordshire-based retailer, have been bought out of administration by Birmingham's Roman Originals.

Women's fashion retailer Romans Originals bought premium occasion-wear brands Frank Usher, Coterie, Michel Ambers and Dusk for an undisclosed sum.

John Whitfield and Philip Duffy of Birmingham-based MCR were appointed administrators to CDU earlier this year.

Roman Originals designs and manufactures its own range of ladies clothing and accessories, which it now retails in over 180 outlets, across the United Kingdom.

John Whitfield said: "This is a real success for MCR as it has secured the future of some of the best known names in the retail ladies wear market. These are well-established brands with a dedicated and loyal customer base so the key driver for us was to protect the brands and in doing so maximise the return to creditors of CDU Plc from their sale.

"Roman Originals has a long heritage in the womenswear market, with an extensive range of products covering everything from work wear, holiday clothing, evening wear and casual day wear and all sold through a network of over 180 retail outlets. For MCR this was the natural home for the former CDU Plc brands."
