Goodrich Corporation, which has bases in Birmingham and Wolverhampton, has acquired Microtecnica for €330m.

Goodrich, which supplies systems and services to the aerospace and defence industry, was advised on the deal by DLA Piper's Birmingham office.

Turin-based Microtecnica was acquired from SSCP Aero Holdings S.C.A, based in Luxembourg.

Microtecnica provides flight control actuation systems for helicopter, aircraft, missile actuation, as well as aircraft thermal and environmental control systems.

Corporate partners Jim Lavery and Goffredo Guerra lead on the deal from DLA Piper's offices in Birmingham and Milan.

Lavery said: "Goodrich is a longstanding and highly valued client of DLA Piper. We are thrilled to have supported Goodrich in its latest acquisition which will strengthen its product portfolio and its presence in key growth markets. It has also been a great opportunity to work with our colleagues in Milan."

John Linker, director of business development, Goodrich added: "The acquisition of Microtecnica fits with our strategy by increasing Goodrich’s exposure to three growth markets; commercial and military helicopters, commercial regional, business and general aviation aircraft and missile actuation."

Microtecnica employs approximately 700 people and Goodrich expects the business to have sales of $220m in 2011, with significant growth potential.
