Businesses discuss LEP performance
More than 160 companies have attended the Business and Stakeholders Council in Coventry, which feeds issues and ideas to the region's LEP.
The meeting, which was held at the Ricoh Arena, was organised by the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce. It was hosted by the Federation of Small Business and supported by the Institute of Directors.
Louise Bennett, chief executive of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: "To have as many companies and organisations attend a meeting to find out what progress has been made, and to give valuable feedback, is very impressive.
"Business wants to see action and achievement from the LEP and there is no question that it has made serious strides in just a few months.
"The whole purpose of the LEP is to break down the barriers to growth and to help stimulate the growth of jobs in our area and business plays a vital role in helping that happen."
Martin Reeves, chief executive of Coventry City Council, gave a key note address at the event.
Bruce Undy, regional chairman of the FSB, said: "Small businesses are the backbone of the national economy and it is essential that the views of a wide range of companies are both sought and listened to by the LEP.
"We have now had two meetings of the Stakeholders Council and they have both been extremely well supported. I am sure that interest will be maintained because it is clear that the government see LEPs as a key vehicle to driving forward the economy."
