Rolls-Royce engines under scrutiny once more
Roll-Royce has been rocked by another incident relating to its engines. The Derby-based manufacturer was forced to return to Bangkok after one of its engines shut down. The latest failure comes days after issues in a Rolls-Royce engine meant a Cathay Pacific flight had to make an emergency landing in Singapore.
There were no injuries among passengers on board either flight.
According to reports, one of the four engines on the flight from Bangkok had reached "high temperatures".
A Qantas spokesman told reporters the pilot had shut down the engine and returned to Bangkok "as a precaution".
"We believe the cause is similar to events that other airlines are experiencing and is subject to an increased monitoring program from the manufacturer Rolls-Royce," he added.
Late last year, Rolls-Royce came under fire after one of its Trent 900 engines on board a Qantas flight leapt into flames.
