Insider editor Andy Coyne said: "The good news is that we have had more entries for our 42 under 42 feature than ever before. The bad news is this is an almost unprecedentedly difficult economic climate for young entrepreneurs.

"But judging by the standard of entries this year, the Midlands is in for an exciting future full of new and innovative businesses.

"This selection represents a cross-selection of entrepreneurs and managers from a wide range of business types - from floor tiling to solar energy and from next generation vacuum cleaners to funeral services.

"What it amounts to is a huge amount of potential and the tantalising prospect that amongst the 42 are the future captains of Midlands industry."
