Administrators called to C&G Concrete

The Midlands office of PwC has been appointed to handle the administration of Lincolnshire-based C&G Concrete. Administrators Eddie Williams and Matthew Hammond said the business had faced "significant challenges", in particular the adverse weather conditions at the end of 2010.

Stamford-based C&G, which has 120 employees, is a producer of aggregates, ready mixed concrete and mortar for the construction industry.

The company operates from three quarries and several plants throughout Lincolnshire, Humberside and Peterborough.

C&G was placed into administration by its directors in response to an advertisement in the London Gazette publicising a petition for winding up.

Eddie Williams, joint administrator, said: "C&G is a well-known business within its local markets with a strong reputation for quality and service, which was making significant progress in terms of its performance.

"There have already been a number of serious expressions of interest in the business and our main priority now will be to quickly progress these interested parties plus other potential acquirers to the completion of a sale of the business. In looking to achieve a sale, it will be critical that we retain the ongoing support of both the employees and the suppliers to the business."

Other divisions of the group including FH Gilman & Co are not subject to any administrators' appointment, said PwC.
