Opun wins development funding

Opun, the East Midlands' architecture and built environment centre, has received a £65,000 grant from the design council CABE. The money was allocated by the Department of Communities and Local Government.

Opun said the funding would enable it to continue to offer independent design review advice to developers, local planners and local communities.

The funding will also be used to help improve and grow design support services, it was said.

Gary Hunt, Opun’s chairman, said: "With this support from CABE, Opun will ensure high quality design in the built environment. This grant helps ensure that the good work that we’ve done during the last ten years will continue."

Last year, Opun said it reviewed more than 40 major planning schemes and is already on target to review more this year.

Julie Tanner, Opun’s chief executive, added: "Design review is a core product offer of our design support service to local authorities, developers and the communities affected by new development. It is a fantastic achievement to have been awarded this grant from design council CABE. This money will help Opun to support the delivery of high quality development in the East Midlands."

Opun is a built environment and architecture centre in the East Midlands. It is a member of the Architecture Centre Network and it is hosted by De Montfort University, Leicester.
