Drivers Jonas Deloitte wins 650,000 sq ft retail scheme
Coventry City Council and Aviva Investors have appointed Drivers Jonas Deloitte as lead development consultant on a scheme which they say could "transform the centre of the city".
The city council is planning a development of the southern quarter of the city’s central core which could involve the creation of 650,000 sq ft of new retail space.
Coventry City Council signed an agreement with Aviva Investors - which is the other majority land holder in that part of the city centre - earlier this year to bring forward the scheme.
David Cockroft, assistant director for city centre and development services for the council, said: "Drivers Jonas Deloitte will lead a team of professionals to scope a viable scheme and advise us all aspects of a development with the aim of obtaining outline permission.
"By working together we can prepare a great deal of ground before we go out to developers and that will make the opportunity far more attractive and bring a degree of certainty."
The appointment of Drivers Jonas Deloitte comes less than a year after Cushman & Wakefield proved the potential viability of developing the southern quarter of the city centre.
An outline planning application should be submitted within 12 months, said the council.
