Royal wedding clock set for Abu Dhabi display

A clock created by two Derby companies to commemorate the royal wedding is to be showcased in Abu Dhabi. The timepiece, produced by Smith of Derby and Royal Crown Derby, is thought to be one of the world's most expensive pieces of memorabilia from last month's event.

Clockmaker Smith of Derby and porcelain company Royal Crown Derby worked together to design the clock to mark the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The clock, valued at £9,950, features a porcelain rose which represents Kate "as an English rose, emerging from the marriage as a princess", said the creators.

It also displays the coat of arms of Prince William and a sheath of wheat, which is the traditional symbol for wedding.

A spokesman from Smith of Derby said: "Interest is spreading for the most luxurious and what we believe is perhaps the world's most expensive Royal Wedding memorabilia. Inquiries for this celebration timepiece have been received from the United Arab Emirates and as a result, the piece will be displayed at the UAE Interior Show in Abu Dhabi this week."
