Auto events come to West Midlands

The West Midlands is set to host two automotive events this month. The seminars will target companies looking to boost their eco credentials and protect their business against risk, said organisers.

Managed by Manufacturing Advisory Service West Midlands (MAS-WM) Auto, the first interactive workshop will focus on the need for the supply chain to understand ‘green growth’ and how businesses should address their environmental performance to reduce energy costs.

The free event will be held on 12 May at Birmingham’s Midlands Arts Centre. It will feature a case study from Shakespeare Forgings on its new four-phase bid to save £95,000, cut emissions by 600 tonnes per year and facilitate a move to a single site.

This will be followed by a breakfast seminar on 18 May in Cradley Heath. At the event, law firm George Green will address how manufacturers can protect themselves against unexpected events and compliance.

MAS-WM Auto’s Rachel Eade said: "The automotive industry is changing dramatically and suppliers need to be able to tap into expert advice and guidance quickly and effectively...something we try to achieve with our extensive events programme.

"One of the major shifts in approach has been the car producers insisting that the supply chain follows its lead when reducing potential impact on the environment. This could include minimising carbon footprint, a 25 per cent reduction in waste to landfill and cutting inbound and outbound logistic emissions."
