Enterprising jobs boost for Birmingham
Forty-six jobs have been created in south west Birmingham after the creation of five social enterprises in the region. The Initiative for Social Entrepreneurs (iSE) provided support and training for the new ventures.
Funded by the Working Neighbourhoods Fund, the project was run by iSE through the South West Birmingham Accelerator Project.
Freshwinds IT, The Sweet Project, Tasha & Deb’s Community Café, Big Community CIC and the Person 1st Personal Assistant Agency have all been set up as social enterprises in the last 18 months.
The project was administered by James Crawley, social enterprise business coach at Digbeth-based iSE.
He said: "With both the public and private sector facing difficult times ahead, we strongly believe the time is right for social enterprises to take the lead. As the government looks to social enterprises to deliver services that were previously provided by local authorities or primary care trusts as part of the Big Society agenda, there is a wealth of opportunities for businesses to pick up contracts."
