Sales spike at Sports Direct
Sales at sports clothing and equipment retailer Sports Direct have risen more than 10 per cent to £236m in the nine weeks to 27 March. The Mansfield-based company said the results "highlight the strength" of its retail division, which took £200m during the period.
The results were revealed this morning in a trading update to the Stock Exchange.
Alongside a 10.3 per cent hike in sales, gross profit was up 7.3 per cent to £88m compared with the same period in 2010.
Retail division sales for the nine weeks increased 12.4 per cent to £200m, up from £178m in 2010. Retail gross profit increased 8.8 per cent to £74m.
Dave Forsey, chief executive of Sports Direct International, said: "We are pleased with the progress made by the group and these results continue to highlight the strength of our retail division and the drive from our investment in margin and advertising."
