Something for the bank holiday weekend
The heat is on
We know it’s been warm lately, but Loughborough University is surely taking things a little too far. Research at the university has this week centred on finding out where athletes sweat. Professor George Havenith and Dr Caroline Smith created a body map of sweating patterns using the university’s specialist facilities and a unique technique. The results showed unexpectedly high levels of sweating on the central and lower back, particularly in the area of the spine, apparently. We hope they washed their hands before lunch.
Web of fear
You really couldn’t meet a nicer man than Flint Bishop’s marketing guru Carl Weston. However, a phone call to Insider HQ this week revealed some of Carl’s deepest, darkest fears. Suffering from a hot office (not a euphemism), Carl opened the window, only to find a spider "as big as his head" climbing in through the window. "I had to go and get a lady to get rid of it," Carl breathed down the phone. "I’d rather be hot than have a spider in the office," he said. Researchers at Loughborough University – if you’re looking for a guinea pig, you might have found him.
Fighting talk
East meets West in RSM Tenon’s inaugural Midlands Cup golf competition – when business people from the two regions battle it out over 18 holes at Edgbaston.
The golf tournament, to be held at Edgbaston Golf Club on 11 May, is held to mark the last year’s work by RSM Tenon colleagues and thank business partners.
Captain for the West Midlands is Mike Ward, joint senior partner at the Birmingham office of HBJ Gateley Wareing.
Steve Thornhill, director of corporate finance at the Birmingham office of RSM Tenon crows: "We have turned to a seasoned professional and a safe pair of hands in Mike Ward - someone we are confident will lead our team in his usual assured and confident way. He is the perfect choice to lead the West Midlands team to certain victory."
Captain for the East Midlands is investment director John Garner of LDC.
Paul Bevan, Midlands head of corporate finance based in RSM Tenon’s Nottingham office, boasts: "John is a true leader of men, a legend in his own living room and has the guile and determination to lead our superior bunch of golfers to the prize."
Calm down, boys.
