The annual Lord Stafford Awards have been launched in the Midlands. The event, which acknowledges innovation and collaboration between universities and business, is now open for submissions from businesses across the region.

For the first time, the awards will be a combined East and West Midlands event.

Deadline for entries to the four categories in the awards is 30 June, with the ceremony to be held on 17 November.

Previous winners have included Malvern-based Morgan Motor Company, which won an award in 2007 for its collaboration with Birmingham City University.

Lord Stafford, patron of the awards, said: “Innovation and making the most of expertise in universities in the Midlands is increasingly important as these institutions are being asked to find ways to work more closely with businesses.

“Innovation is crucial to the future of the economy in the UK and, with the awards now in their 15th year, it is vital that we continue to celebrate the best of the tremendous work that is being done.”
