Leicestershire in tourism boost
The value of Leicestershire’s tourism sector has risen to £1.32bn. That's according to research completed by the East Midlands Development Agency’s (Emda) tourism arm.
In 2010, the value of the region’s tourism sector rose to £1.32bn, an increase on its 2009 total of £1.3bn.
According to research from East Midlands Tourism, the number of visitors to the region hit 30.559 million. The number of jobs supported by tourism activity reached 19,493
Martin Peters, chief executive of Leicester Shire Promotions - which markets the research, said: "In the light of such challenging times, it's encouraging to see that the size of the visitor economy continues to buck the trend of so many other market sectors by displaying small, but steady growth.
“These figures show that tourism is a core industry for our city and county, and provides a strong platform to help drive the local economy forward."
