Hawkstone swoops on funding deal

Hawkstone Properties has secured £3.5m-worth of investment from Yorkshire Bank. The Hagley-based developer said the funding will be used to finance two major retail projects.

Hawkstone was awarded £2.75m from Yorkshire Bank for its Hereford retail development The Core and a further £750,000 to refurbish its Bridgend Shopping Centre in South Wales.

The company acquired The Core in 2009 and has now completed a major refurbishment to subdivide 28,000 sq ft of retail space into four units.

The first available unit was taken by leading UK toy store The Entertainer late last year.

A refurbishment of the 100,000 sq ft Bridgend Shopping Centre is currently underway and due to be completed by the end of August 2011.

Managing director of Hawkstone, Andy Kirton, said: “We’ve established a strong relationship with Yorkshire Bank having worked with them on the development of a neighbourhood shopping centre in Warwick in 2006 so we trust their advice and support.

“The Core is based at a prominent location in the heart of Hereford and we’re confident that the provision of four high quality retail units will only add to the shopping experience in the city centre.”
