Genting to close Leicester casino

Share | |

The Genting Casinos Group is to close its Leicester operation with the loss of 70 jobs. Genting, which is planning to close three of its sites in the UK, says staff at the Leicester casino will be given the chance to relocate to other sites.

Adrian Baker, GMB national casinos organiser, said: "The staff affected at the Leicester site will have the opportunity to be redeployed within the company locally. Whilst the company will offer up employment alternatives to these staff GMB will be approaching the company to seek an improved relocation package for these staff.

“These clubs are the latest in a long line of established casinos that have seen their doors close as a result of aggressive competition from across the gaming industry and there is little doubt that that they will not be the last."

Genting's flagship Circus Casino at Star City in Birmingham, which was opened in November 2003, is one of the largest in the UK. The 70,000 sq ft site comprises several floors and employs about 220 people.
