Council signs £12.1m BSF project deal
Legal contracts worth £12.1m have been signed by Nottingham City Council and the city’s local education partnership regarding the refurbishment of Ellis Guilford School.
New buildings will be created to replace “inadequate” structures including the Guilford and maths buildings.
They will be replaced by a block which will house pupils with special education needs and provide a performing arts space and teaching classrooms. A new dining area will also be created.
Work will be carried out through the city’s local education partnership, which is a public-private collaboration between the council and Inspiredspaces.
Inspiredspaces, a subsidiary of construction giant Carillion, was created to completed projects funded by the government’s former Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
Jim Mason, director of major programmes at the council, said: "This is excellent news for children, their families and the local community in Old Basford. This project is about more than bricks and mortar - it is about transforming the teaching and learning experience to ensure that children get the most out of their school life and reach their full potential. Reaching financial close is an important milestone and means that construction work on this exciting project can begin."
Construction work will start in later this month and be completed in autumn 2012.
