Hotel and retail scheme gets green light
Proposals for a hotel and retail scheme including a restaurant and apartments have been given the go-ahead by Lichfield District Council. The final element of the £14m redevelopment of Friary Outer was approved only weeks after the green light was given for the project’s housing scheme.
Included in the plans are a 65-bed hotel, 8,000 sq ft of ground floor retail and restaurant space and six affordable apartments.
The scheme is being developed S Harrison Developments, based in York.
An announcement regarding the appointment of a major national hotel operator to run the hotel once it is completed is expected shortly.
S Harrison has teamed up with Bromford Group, one of the council’s preferred registered social landlord (RSL) partners, to provide 60 affordable homes at Friary Outer. Of these, 54 are designated specifically as sheltered apartments for older people, with the remaining six affordable homes available under shared ownership arrangements.
