Chamber launches degree course

Chamber Training, the training arm of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, is offering a foundation degree course in leadership and management.

The introduction of the foundation degree, designed by Teeside University, will be taught through a modular programme. It will give people currently employed in a management role the opportunity to study at undergraduate level, said the chamber.

Modules within the course include team building, coaching and mentoring, managing people, finances and change, and a work-based project.

George Cowcher, chief executive of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Businesses cannot always find the right person to fill their management posts.

“Many recognise the benefits of progressing their own employees through the ranks, but often this only offers practical, in-house experience, and finding the training to support this transition can be difficult.

“Our new degree course aims to fill this gap by enhancing and broadening skills and knowledge, whilst offering employees the chance to gain a higher education qualification alongside the opportunity to network and share best practice with like-minded managers.”
