Mandarin owner snaps up premises

Alan Cheung, the restaurateur behind the Mandarin Restaurant in Nottingham, has bought the freehold to the eatery in Belward Street. NatWest in Nottingham has provided the funding to support the purchase.

The restaurant is a purpose built facility which opened 18 months ago after the previous site was destroyed by a fire.

Cheung secured finance to buy the freehold on the site through a loan from NatWest, which has become the restaurant’s banking partner. NatWest said its “stepped in to support Cheung after his previous bankers were unwilling to finance his plans”.

Cheung said: “I have been delighted by our level of trade since we re-opened after the fire. We are in a fortunate position to be based close to the arena, but our menu and quality of food has also built up a strong regular client base. The purchase of the freehold demonstrates our commitment to remain in Nottingham, and indeed we hope to grow our trade even further in the coming years.”
