Worcester-based Craegmoor Group has been acquired by the Priory Group for an undisclosed sum. Craegmoor provides support services for people with learning disabilities and mental health issues.

Priory, which is headquartered in Surrey but has operations throughout the UK, said it hopes the deal will allow it to diversify into autism and learning disability services.

The deal will also combine the elderly care operations of both companies to create a large division with a "strong development pipeline".

The expanded company is looking into potential opportunities resulting from NHS healthcare reforms, and is "positioning itself as a partner of choice for the commissioning of its specialist services".

Philip Scott, chief executive officer of Priory Group, said: "Priory and Craegmoor are extremely complementary businesses. Our combined strengths will enable us to offer our patients, pupils and their families, access to a wider range of specialists, whilst also improving the continuity and co-ordination of care we are able to offer. Our management team is committed to ensuring that high quality service provision remains the top priority for the new group."
